Ringing in the new year in Durango means you'll be surrounded by mountains instead of skyscrapers, and that's an upgrade. The celebrations are smaller-scale but genuinely fun, and you'll actually remember midnight.

Downtown Celebrations

Several bars and restaurants host New Year's Eve events with live music, special menus, and midnight toasts. Steamworks Brewing usually has something going on. Check local listings for the current year's events — they vary but there's always multiple options.

Main Avenue has a festive atmosphere on NYE, with people walking between venues and the holiday lights still up. It's lively without being overwhelming.

Dinner Options

The Ore House, East by Southwest, and Steamworks are all good choices for a New Year's Eve dinner. Make reservations well in advance — this is one of the busiest dining nights of the year.

For something more casual, grab dinner at Zia Taqueria before heading out for the evening.

New Year's Day

Start the year right — go skiing. There's no better way to shake off a late night than cold mountain air and fresh groomers. Purgatory will be open, and the mountain is usually a bit quieter on January 1st as people recover.

Or sleep in, make a big breakfast, and soak in the hot tub. No judgment.

Both of our Purgatory townhomes — Basecamp and Timberline — are right across from the resort with hot tubs, EV chargers, and free shuttle access.
