March Skiing 2025: Why Late Season Rules at Purgatory
March at Purgatory is the reward for everyone who skis all season. The base is deep, the days are long, and the crowds have evaporated. If you haven't booked a late-season trip yet, here's your sign.
The Conditions
By March, Purgatory's snowpack is typically at or near its seasonal peak. Spring storms continue to deliver — often some of the biggest dumps of the year — and the base depth means coverage is wall-to-wall. All 100+ runs are usually open.
The weather is the real upgrade. Highs in the 30s and 40s at the base, bluebird skies more often than not, and a sun that actually has some warmth. Morning groomers are firm corduroy; afternoon snow softens into creamy corn.
The Vibe
Spring skiing at Purgatory is relaxed. No one is in a rush. People are skiing in hoodies and sunglasses. The parking lot has tailgate energy. It feels more like a celebration than a mission.
Tips
Sunscreen. Sunscreen. Sunscreen. At 10,822 feet, the March sun will cook you. Lighter layers are fine most days, but keep a waterproof shell handy — spring storms can roll in fast. And bring sunglasses for the lift rides.
Our townhome Basecamp sleeps eight, has a hot tub and pool table, and is right across from the resort with a free shuttle to the lift.
