Durango Film Festival: A Weekend of Indie Cinema
Every October, Durango hosts its own film festival — a weekend of independent films, documentaries, and shorts screened in downtown venues. It's a smaller festival, which means you'll actually rub elbows with filmmakers over coffee and catch screenings without a hassle.
What to Expect
The Durango Film Festival features a curated selection of independent films from around the world. Categories typically include narrative features, documentaries, shorts, and a focus on outdoor and adventure films — fitting for a mountain town.
Screenings happen at venues around downtown Durango, with multiple films running throughout the day. Q&A sessions with filmmakers follow many screenings, and there are usually panel discussions and networking events.
Why October?
The timing is ideal. Fall colors are at or near peak. The summer crowds are gone. The weather is crisp and clear — perfect for walking between venues and grabbing coffee between screenings. It's Durango in one of its best seasons.
Beyond the Films
Pair the festival with fall activities. Hike through the aspens in the morning, catch an afternoon screening, then head to the Ore House or Steamworks for dinner and a nightcap. The festival creates a great framework for a full Durango weekend.
Getting Tickets
Festival passes and individual screening tickets are available through the festival's website. Weekend passes are the best value if you plan to see multiple films.
