For a town of about 19,000 people, Durango punches way above its weight in craft beer. You can walk between most of the breweries downtown, which makes for a perfect afternoon crawl.

Steamworks Brewing Co.

The anchor of the Durango beer scene. Steamworks has been brewing on Main Avenue since 1996 and consistently puts out solid beers across every style. The food menu is extensive too, so this can be your dinner stop. The Colorado Kolsch and Third Eye Pale Ale are reliable picks.

Ska Brewing

Ska's taproom on Girard Street has the full lineup plus taproom-only releases. The vibe is laid-back — picnic tables, food trucks, dogs welcome. Modus Hoperandi IPA is the flagship, but don't sleep on their lighter offerings. True Blonde is crushable after a hike.

Animas Brewing

Smaller and more neighborhood-y than Steamworks or Ska. Animas Brewing focuses on European-inspired styles — their kolsch and hefeweizen are excellent. The taproom is cozy, and they usually have a food option available.

The Walk

Here's the beautiful thing: you can walk between all three in under 20 minutes. Start at Animas Brewing, walk to Steamworks for a pint and some food, then finish at Ska. Or reverse it. Durango is flat and walkable downtown, so nobody needs a designated driver for this crawl.

Honorable Mentions

Durango Brewing Company and Carver Brewing are also worth checking out if you have time. Carver does solid breakfast too.

Both of our Purgatory townhomes — Basecamp and Timberline — are right across from the resort with hot tubs, EV chargers, and free shuttle access.
