The Bluegrass Meltdown is back for 2025, and Durango's downtown is about to get loud (in the best way). A weekend of banjos, fiddles, mandolins, and flat-picking guitars spread across multiple venues.

The Festival

The Meltdown runs over a weekend in April with national and regional bluegrass acts performing at venues throughout downtown Durango. The Henry Strater Theatre hosts the headliners, while bars and restaurants feature smaller acts throughout the day and evening.

How to Do It

Grab a weekend pass for the best value. Plan to walk between venues — that's part of the experience. Wear comfortable shoes and dress in layers (April weather is unpredictable). The music starts in the afternoon and runs late, so pace yourself.

Between Sets

Durango in April is emerging from mud season. Lower trails are drying out, the Animas River is rising, and the energy in town is shifting from quiet winter to active spring. Hit a morning hike before the music starts.

Food and Drink

Steamworks Brewing and Ska Brewing are go-to spots between shows. Zia Taqueria for quick refueling. The Ore House for a proper dinner before the evening headliner.

Our townhome Timberline is right across from Purgatory — three bedrooms, a hot tub, a fireplace, and a free shuttle to the lift.
