February at Purgatory: Deep Snow and Fewer Crowds

If you asked us to pick one month for a Purgatory ski trip, February would be a strong contender. The snowpack is deep, the holiday crowds have gone home, and the mountain is at its winter best.

The Snow

February typically offers the deepest base of the season. Months of accumulation from November through January build a foundation, and February storms continue to add. All terrain is open, coverage is complete, and powder days are frequent.

The Crowds

The holiday rush is over. Christmas, New Year's, and MLK weekend are behind us. Presidents' Day weekend sees a bump, but otherwise February is blissfully uncrowded. Midweek skiing in February can feel like having the mountain to yourself.

The Cold

February is still solidly winter. Expect cold mornings and summit temperatures that require serious gear. But the days are noticeably longer than December and January, and the sun has more strength. You can feel spring approaching, even if it's still weeks away.

The Strategy

Midweek stays in February are the value play — lower lodging rates, empty lift lines, and the same great snow. If you have flexible travel dates, aim for Tuesday through Thursday.

Our townhome Basecamp sleeps eight, has a hot tub and pool table, and is right across from the resort with a free shuttle to the lift.
