Christmas at Purgatory 2025: Your Holiday Ski Vacation
Christmas at Purgatory is everything the holiday should be — snow on the ground, mountains everywhere, skiing during the day, and a cozy townhome to come back to at night.
The Skiing
By Christmas week, Purgatory typically has a strong base and most of its terrain open. December storms usually deliver, and the resort's snowmaking fills gaps. All ability levels have plenty to explore.
Christmas week is busy — expect fuller lift lines than usual. The pro move: ski early, take a long lunch, then hit the slopes again when crowds thin after 2 PM.
Christmas in Durango
Downtown Durango is lit up for the holidays. Shops have special displays, restaurants offer holiday menus, and the Victorian buildings draped in lights look straight out of a Hallmark movie (but without the awkward dialogue).
Christmas Day
The mountain is open. Some families ski; others sleep in and enjoy a slow morning. A Christmas morning run with fresh snow and thin crowds is a gift in itself.
Back at the townhome, the hot tub under the stars is the evening activity. Hot chocolate optional but recommended.
Tips
Book months ahead — Christmas week is Purgatory's busiest. Restaurant reservations are essential for Christmas Eve. Pack patience for lift lines and embrace the holiday energy.
Both of our Purgatory townhomes — Basecamp and Timberline — are right across from the resort with hot tubs, EV chargers, and free shuttle access.
